Awarding Committee

High-ranking representatives of the Catholic Church as well as eminent figures from the world of culture, politics, and science are invited to take part in the Awarding Committee.

First Edition (2016)

  1. Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz – Polish Roman Catholic bishop, Doctor of Theology, secretary and chaplain to the Archbishop of Kraków Karol Wojtyła 1966–1978, personal secretary to Pope John Paul II 1978–2005, Archbishop of Kraków since 2005, cardinal presbyter since 2006.
  2. Jacek Krupa – Polish politician, economist and local government activist, local government member, member of the Fifth and Sixth Term Polish Sejm, member of the regional government and Marshal of the Małopolska Region since 2015.
  3. Urszula Nowogórska – chair of the Małopolska Regional Parliament.
  4. Cardinal Donald Wuerl – American Roman Catholic priest, Cardinal, Archbishop of Washington since 2006, Bishop of Pittsburgh from 1988–2006. Ordained on 17 December 1966, he was anointed bishop on 6 January 1986 by Pope John Paul II. Wuerl also serves as chancellor of the Catholic University of America.
  5. Cardinal Angelo Scola – Italian Roman Catholic bishop, Patriarch of Venice during the years 2002–2011, Archbishop of Milan since 2011, Cardinal since 2003.
  6. Cardinal Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle – Filipino Catholic priest, Archbishop of Manila since 2011.
  7. Reverend Father Professor Michał Heller – Polish Catholic presbyter, theologian and professor of philosophy specializing in natural philosophy, physics, relativistic cosmology and the relationship between science and faith. Winner of the Templeton Prize.
  8. George Weigel − American Catholic writer, theologian, social and political activist, author of the best-selling biography of Pope John Paul II Witness to Hope.
  9. Carl Albert Anderson – 13th Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was elected in the year 2000, previously serving as assistant to the Supreme Secretary and as Supreme Secretary.
  10. Senator Rocco Buttiglione – Italian Minister of Culture, friend of John Paul II and populariser of his teachings.
  11. Hanna Suchocka – Polish politician, lawyer and university lecturer, Doctor of Law (with habilitation), Full Professor at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. She served as the Polish Prime Minister from 1992–1993, Minister of Justice and Attorney General in the government of Jerzy Buzek from 1997–2000, Polish ambassador to the Holy See and the Order of Malta from 2001–2013. Member of Eighth Term Sejm of the People’s Republic of Poland, of the Tenth Term (Contract) Sejm and the First, Second and Third Term Sejm. Member of the Order of the White Eagle.
  12. Janina Maria Ochojska-Okońska – Polish humanitarian activist, founder of Polish Humanitarian Action.
